Designers of Things that Hold Water, etc.: Some of Your Designs DON'T!
Why don't some designers realize that making things top-heavy causes them to tip? I have a fight with gravity every time I reach for the shampoo bottle. And some colorful plastic tumblers that live up to their name could have been designed so that they stand up more easily. I know you think it's jazzy to make something extremely big on top and small on the bottom, but what about ergonomics? It's a term from Greek that means "good for work", or "the efficiency of persons in their working environment", referring not only to the human, but indirectly to the tools he/she must use. Form should always follow function, and even today there are ways to achieve that design sensibility without going overboard and making things that tip from the top!
